Low Cost Heating Solutions: Saving Green
First off, we at Catskill Boiler Co. are admittedly different from other distributors and dealerships that you will encounter.
We will not tell you that ours is the “best” product out there.
This industry is full of product bashers and we won’t join in that game. In fact, along with our high quality Bio-Heat Resources you will find a number of other good quality offerings.
We suggest to you that you run (don’t walk) when a dealer tells you that their’s is the best owb or starts bashing other products, dealers and manufacturers.
If they tell you that their furnace is "AWARD WINNING" make sure you ask to see the AWARD |
Choosing the most energy efficient and cost effective furnace for your home can be a real challenge. With so many options to consider, the absolute worst strategy would be to contact and hire the first HVAC specialist you find.
It is in your best interest to talk to several professionals and weigh all your options before making any decisions.
We're here to help you discover the most cost effective heating solution for your home or office.
Catskill Boiler Co. offers a selection of energy efficient furnaces that not only provide a low cost heating solution, but are also environmentally friendly. With our Bio-Heat Resources furnaces, in particular, you will discover several reasons why this type of furnace
will be an optimal choice to meet your needs
So, how do you make a decision as to what to buy?
We truly want you to make an informed decision when purchasing a low cost home heating furnace. We recommend checking out this independent report published by a group of Canadian experts and is available free of charge at http://www.outdoorwoodfurnaces.org/guide.php. You will find that our Bio-Heat Resources furnaces are in alignment with this guide.
We feel that Testing Certification is one of the most important factors to Consider.
Whatever furnace you decide on should be tested to CSA, UL or Warnock Hersey Standards. This certification is for safety only and does not dictate quality. If the furnace you are considering is missing even one of these certifications, we do not recommend that you purchase it.
Ensuring that safety standards are met should be the number one priority.
Folks, if the furnace you are considering does not have one or more of these approvals, our advice is not to make it your purchase choice. The safety consideration is obvious. You will also find that if you are required to get a permit in your town for installing the furnace, many building enforcement agencies will not allow them to be installed without the certification.
BUYER BEWARE! You now have a nice 200 pound hunk of steel and paint in your backyard that the dealer or manufacturer probably won't give you a refund on.
The following are some other guidelines to take under advisement when selecting your new wood outdoor furnace:
- Is your dealer dedicated to the industry? If they sell other products that are significantly different from furnaces, then there is a good chance they may be selling them as a supplement to their primary business. Most of these types of dealers do not qualify as experts.
- Is the dealer attempting to sell you underground pipe (a very important consideration) for ridiculous prices ($10 to $20 a foot) without providing any proof of what your savings will be by using such an expensive product?
- Is the dealer disclosing ALL costs including the cost of circulators, fittings, piping, filters, heat exchangers, gournd pads, water treatments, etc. Every detail of the outdoor wood furnace cost, including installation, needs to be itemized in your quote.
- Does your area require that a furnace meet with the new EPAvoluntary standards guidelines? Although most ares do not require this, particularly rural communities; however it is your responsibility to check this and Catskill Boiler Co. HIGHLY RECOMMENDS doing your research in this area prior to purchase.
- Does your dealer keep a supply of parts on hand for emergency situations?
- Is your dealer able to deliver your furnace to your site? If not what are the costs for you to have it delivered?
- Does your dealer have a list of customer references that can vouch for their customer service and the quality of their furnaces?
- Make sure you thoroughly review the MANUFACTURER’s WARRANTY. Find out exactly what is covered and all stipulations. For example, does the warranty cover corrosion? Do they have an anti-corrosion additive they provide? Will the manufacturer pay for water treatment testing if it is required? Does the warranty cover more than the siding on the furnace? Do you need to put an additive in the ash bed every day in order to keep your furnace in warranty?
